thanks.... the 1st image of the fellow I'm very pleased with.... now if only I could get Michael Jordan or Barak Obama to sit in on this set!

It's sad to say but so many mega careers where the outcome of a famous setting.... Yusof Karsh ( Churchill ), Herb Ritz ( Richard Gear ), Avadon ( Natasha Kinski ), Annie Lebowitz ( god... countless )

I'm not saying I'm of their caliber... but what if?

Male fantasies indeed!

Female fashion photograhy is controlled by women, homosexuals or straight people with business at the fore of their minds.

The target market is other women.

There is no further basis for argument.

Amen to that.
Fashion photography is really quite sexless.
The most high quality sexual ones are really gay men projecting their feminine ideal. Best guys at it...mert and marcus. beautiful work and disturbing at the same time.

Glamour photography is more in line with the whole sex thing.

Sex is still better than photography though.

Too big!!!  I'm going to print it and hang it on my wall.

[a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=215275\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a]

Particularly since this is a Medium Format Digital forum, I think it is safe to say that most here are professional photographers or are very very serious photographers who know better.

As a professional photographer, I am sensitive to individuals "stealing" images, violating copyright, etc.  I do not think that the above comment---implying stealing the image from the web (this post) and printing it--- is appropriate.  Even if stated in jest, I find it to be out of line.  I know that Iron Creek Photography has the mentioned image for sale, and to simply steal it from the web and manipulate it to a printable medium for display is wholly criminal.

I do thank Michael R. for offering us the opportunity to share recent works in this thread, but I doubt the intention was a free-for-all to steal images for display outside of this thread.

I do note that you have images posted in your own gallery, Ed, that you have for sale.  I doubt you would be very obliging to any individual stating they were simply going to right-click and print your images and make some nice postcards. With some of the web images here such as panoramics, it is not difficult to print them much larger yet.  And that's just wrong.

I would rather not see those big intrusive watermarks all over these gorgeous images that everyone here is sharing, but with blatant comments like, "I'm going to print it and hang it on my wall"----now I understand.

Awesome shot Don, I really like your photographic style.

Ed

Thank you for your kind words and support as well as showing me a glaring hole in my security.  While it's much like closing the barn door after the horses have run off I have nevertheless made the original posted image smaller and have added a watermark.  Since I am selling this image as a limited edition starting at $400 I should have had better security on it from the start.

While I doubt that any professional would print an image off a screen post I am equally sure there are many "visitors" who have done just that and professional photographer be damned.

I think you´ll find the late Richard Avedon´s fame was earned way before Natasha´s time... perhaps you were thinking of someone else.

In general, though, careers are made like that: it takes an oppportunity of something bigger than the fame of the snapper to make the snapper more famous.

As has been said over and over again, this is a business that you should never approach with too firm an expectation. The world is full of failed but good photographers.

Ken,

I apologize that you were offended by my comment.  I think most who frequent this forum are sensitive to work being used without permission or appropriate compensation.

I was simply making a joke at Don's comment "Sorry if it is too big."  Like having too much money or too much time for photography.

Like you I would hate to see watermarks but I think it would be in Don's best interest to downsize to 1024 or smaller for web posting, galleries and blogs.

Looking through recent Frank Doorhof pictures, I find them far too technical-looking for my tastes. BUT, look at his Post No. 524 of April 25, 2008, 08.29 PM: I think it is one of the best darn shots I have seen in years. Wish it were mine.

Hi,
You can see more on www.frankdoorhof.com/portfolio

I have thought about the stir this post has caused and still don't get it, what DOES jump out is that the people shouting the most are never showing their own work,.........

I expect that on DPR or some other forums but not on this forum, to be honest it's the only place I did not expect it, and it's the only place it DID happen
Go figure

Summer at the seaside in Britain!

[attachment=7947:attachment]

The white structure on stilts is a lighthouse which was built in 1832 and remains an active aid to navigation along the Bristol Channel. The man walking his dog got very wet as I did 2 minutes after this shot from the approaching rain cloud! (2 shot stitch with P45+ 645II 75-150 lens in CS3)

Ok guys.. breathe =)

Isn't this the topic for showing digital medium format works, not stating to the world how much you dislike photographer A or B?

Of course you are entitled to like or not like a certain photographers work, but it is your personal opinion and not the opinion of everyone. Proclaiming your distaste in this thread is not really productive and will just lead to one thing and that is the moderators closing the thread.

And me for one do enjoy watching ALL the images in this thread, good, bad and ugly *cue whistle music from Morricone here*

So, back to the pictures please? And i would post but i only have scanned digital images from medium format. No digital back for this poor sod yet ;D

There have been more scanned analogue MF images in this thread and as far as I recall nobody is bothered by that. (it better be an excellent image scanned with skills )

The ones that have been shown here were actually very good!

[a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=215447\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a]

I don´t quite know how to take that, particularly as I hardly ever post on this particular thread/section because I have no MF camera any more and my sole interest is in looking at photographs, some of which I enjoy very much and others which I couldn´t care less about. But that is always just my opinion, nothing cast in stone, cement or even waxwork.

The same might apply to Frank´s latest post, as I don´t remember writing anything much about him - perhaps his post wasn´t meant for me, but who can tell: obviously, I can´t.

As for the point of criticism. I don´t think there is any criticism in a pejorative sense in my recent post. I am simply stating that one specific shot blowns my head off, whilst others from the same man do not and I explained why. Something wrong with that? Perhaps the wrong opinion, or just an extension of what Ray is finding on his doorstep?

And as for Michael closing the thread - why on Earth would he do that? This isn´t a religious forum (is it?) nor particularly politically correct, thank God; maybe some think les of Michael´s maturity than do I.

Professional photographers cannot afford to be prima donnas. The moment you get into that bag you are lost. I have been there, briefly, and found the price too high to be worth the candle. If you think your stuff worth posting, then that´s enough justification for any one person. To expect the world to do a sycophantic tango about your legs is bullshit. And it doesn´t matter: clients count, not other snappers.

Anyhow, it´s nice to see what goes for pro photography today.
