I was wondering if anybody has any experience with this?
I've had a d2x for while (and a Fuji S5) and I've only ever used ACR or Lightroom to adjust NEF raw files. Now I'm doing my research checking out the d300 and come across a number of discussions regarding the superior capabilities and using Capture NX vs Lightroom at high ISO's, especially for the D300. Apparently the Lightroom/ACR Raw converter just doesn't do as good a job with resolving detail and more importantly, removing noise, then Capture NX.
I know when you set preferences in Lightoom to open in any converter it can only open as a .psd or a tiff file. I have since learned that you can open the raw file in ACR/Photoshop if you drag the thumbnail onto the PS icon. (totally annoying)
So, can one do the same with Capture NX and if so does it save the file with a .xmp file? Will Lightroom automatically read it or do you need to re-import? And most importantly, is it true that Capture NX does a better job, especially at higher ISO's.
Different Question:
While I'm at it, does anyone know how well the the D300 lens calibration function works and whether it can really improve image quality?
