Focusing distance in Exif data

I'm not familiar with DXO Optics Pro - however I am pretty sure that the focus distance IS in the EXIF data. Correct me if I'm wrong here.

Focusing distance in Exif data

Why doesn't Canon include focusing distance in the Exif data?

I downloaded the demo version of DXO Optics Pro and am quite impressed by the results, but manually adding the focusing distance is a bit of a hassle, particularly as I find it difficult to guess the distance after the fact.

Canon does use focusing distance for ETTL 11 (with most lenses) so the info is passed to the camera - why not include it in the Exif data?  Is there any hope of convincing them to include it in future - I would guess this can be done via a frimware update?

I've seen several threads on this subject and the conclusion seem to be that Canon doesn't include distance in exif info, or at least not on all models.
Don't remember the details, but try a search here and on the dpreview forums.
This was on top of the list on dpreview (by searching for "exif distance"): http://forums.dpreview.com/forums....2982543
