Live View on external monitor

Hello !

As Live view comes more and more common I do wonder if it is possible to use that on an external monitor. Ideal would be if it is possible to use it with devices like Jobo giga Vue or Epson 5000. As long as the live view is crippled by fixed screens this would give the benefit of shooting under difficult conditions. I had just finished a job about churches and wished I would have a live view option with extra screen as the camera often was lying on the ground for pictures of the cupola. And there are certainly more situations where this could be useful, as long as I do not have to carry a tv or computer screen with me.

Almost a year has gone by - does anyone know of a device like these that has a "video in" that could be the remote screen for a Live  view field session?

Try using the "line in" jack on a portable dvd player (use the camera's video out).  I've tried this, and although the IQ isn't the greatest, it doesn't have to be- all you need to be able to do is compose and focus, the latter of which you can do easily by magnifying the live view image via the camera.

Hmm I  Have not seen any DVD players with video in function  yet ...
Could anyone recommend some brand ? ( I guess PAL gives better resolution )

Thanks - that's the kind of screen: small, portable, only needs to be as good as the back of a Live View camera.  I was hoping for a little "convergence" where the portable storage device for the photos/backup (Giga Vue, P7000 etc) could have an additional function, to minimize the number of gizmos needed for a hike/trip!  I expect iPhone9.0 will be able to do it

If you could link it/tether it with   USB..I would suggest looking at an ASUS eeepc. Cheap ,light,long battery life.

The Canon G9 can use live view tethered to a computer via USB and Canon software.
