Lightroom says server busy
« on: August 24, 2007, 06:59:16 am »

Have used Lightroom for a few months without real difficulty, but suddenly when I click on a thumbnail programme freezes, and a box comes up with the following

"Server busy, this action cannot be completed because the other programme is busy. Chosse "switch to" to activate the busy programme, and correct the problem"
When I click on "switch to" it shows the programmes in the start menu, but there is no obvious way of knowing what is causing the problem. I would add that there is also a button for "retry" and one for "cancel" on the box

This is driving me potty, because I am only running one Lightroom programme.
I have the dreaded Vista Premium installed on my 3 months old computer.
If anyone can help I will be eternally grateful.
Thanks

You trying to access images over a server? That will not work, LR will not operate on a server or with server images.

Thanks for reply, but I am not doing that. As I say I have used Lightroom satisfactorily for some months, and the thumbnails are all there, but as soon as I click on one then that is when I get the server message. Obviously a server is butting in-what do I do about that, as I have tried most things.

Try to fill a bug report (here) or post on the Adobe User to User forum.

Photoman:

It *sounds* like this may be Windows Explorer related.  Have you installed these 2 patches?

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/938194/en-us

Both address media and filecopy issues

hope this helps - John

John, Have installed those two patches, but I am afraid they have not solved my problem. However I think you are correct in saying that my problem is Explorer related, because, say, if I delete a file or some other action Explorer then "hangs" and I have to go to task manager to end the programme.I have spent so much time with this that I feel heartily sick of windows vista, as this is not the only problem that I have had, but it is the most unsolvable.I think that this os is even worse than 95 and 98 first edition. I must admit though that although I manage image editing programmes just fine, I am just as stuck as if my car breaks down, when things go seriously wrong.Maybe that is just what I should do, and call the A.A.
Thanks, Roy

Just to bring this one to an end, it turns out that my computer is sick with memory problems. The engineer called with 2 new memory sticks, but after taking out the old ones, and inserting the new, the computer would not then boot up. He tried them in different combinations with the old but again no luck. It has now been returned to the manufacturers, but how odd is all that. The new memory had exactly the same code number as the existing.
Thanks for your replies, but I feel that I have some egg  on my face by blaming Vista, it is proof that we should not believe everything we read on the web.
