Tip: fewer-step downloading
« on: August 07, 2007, 11:50:17 pm »

if as I am, you are heeding the request of the Luminous Landscape people to only download one file at a time, then you will probably have noticed that the page displaying the list of files for your order has a session timeout parameter and it's pretty short.

if your session has timed out and you click the Download button for the next file, you will be redirected to the 'timed out' login page. after you have supplied your login details, you are redirected to the Best Sellers page. you then click My Account, then click the View button for the order that contains the C2P files and finally click the Download button for the file that you want to download.

there is a quicker way. Don't click the Download button if you think your session has timed out. instead, reload the page. you will be directed to a different login page and after you've supplied your login parameters (which in my case are automatically supplied by OmniWeb), you will be redirected back to the file list page instead of the Best Sellers page. this saves quite a bit of clicking and time, and makes behaving as a one-file-at-a-time 'good guy' much easier.

regards,
Gregory

Tip: fewer-step downloading

Good advice Gregory - many thanks for posting this. The time-out feature is annoying but set at a very basic level in the shopping cart software, so we don't wish to mess with it. It is a 'security feature'   or as Jeff might say: an annoy-the-crap-out-of-me feature. BTW it does not affect the file download except where a Download Manager is being used - these do not work well with our shopping cart and should always be disabled.

confirmed. my first idea was to begin every file download and then in OmniWeb's Download window stop every download except the first one. then as each file finished downloading, I would Resume the next one. unfortunately as you've indicated, this didn't work. the web site returned a 404 html file instead.
