Wimberly Sidekick as Carry-On

Hi,
Does anyone have experience or knowledge about whether something like a Wimberly Sidekick causes concern for the airport security people? I'm flying to Africa and hope to keep the sidekick and Acratech V2 ballhead in my carry-on. However these look like strange and exotic objects to non-photographers.

Check with your local airport or carrier what the rules say about ballheads and similar items.

I'm fairly certain that ballheads need to be checked in, though I don't know the regulations in your country (whatever that is).

You shouldn't have a problem with either of these items in your carry-on luggage anywhere. I've carried far more exotic looking items and never had a problem so long as you can confidently explain what it is. The good news is that both items are pretty robust so I wouldn't fret about wrapping them in some socks or a towel and leaving them in your checked luggage either.
