The situation is that after using Photoshop CS2 and Macromedia Studio 8 I've 'upgraded' to CS3 Design Premium.  Although I never had beta or trial CS3 on this computer ( G5 DP2.7, 7GB RAM, OSX 10.4.9) the intstallation failed on half of the programs so I have to wait until Tuesday to talk to Adobe folks.  Tried everything I could find on the forums and the knowledge base but no luck.

I uninstalled via the installation disk and ran the CS script to remove the beta, just in case it removed any files that the uninstall didn't (it found some from the installation).

Meanwhile it has broken the link opening Bridge from within PSCS2, and having researched the installation problem and read about other problems I feel a hesitation to even call Adobe and find out how to load the programs until some updates are posted.

As Jeff mentioned, Bridge was initially a disaster last time and it took several updates to fix the bugs.  While I am upset that I've spent $1500+ to upgrade to a suite of programs that won't even install onto a computer that has been bulletproof since I've owned it I would be far more upset to spend the next six to eight weeks possibly swearing daily.

Please feel free to offer a perspective on this situation.

Just had exactly the same problem this morning. link to bridge in cs2 is broken and dont want to go straight to 3 for everything yet.

Mark,
As you and others may well know, Mac system maintenance is very important especially prior to, and just after installing new software of any kind.  If you did not or have not, it might be a good idea to repair permissions just before and just after installing new software.  

In addition, Macs are set to perform certain necessary tasks during the overnight hours.  If you Mac is turned off after midnight, this is probably not ocurring.  You could try a program like Tiger Cache Cleaner to perform some of these tasks, and could also try rebuilding your directories with a program like Disk Warrior, then repair permission and install.  When I do these things it seems like I have a lot less headaches with new software that I read others are having with the same programs on similar setups.

Thanks for the suggestions.  I'm already doing most of what you mentioned but I haven't tried Disk Warrior so I'll go that route if I choose to install CS3.  Having used Macs since the SE I'm familiar with most of the routines on software installation.

You can run the cleanup scripts manually.  I do this on my laptop since it is usually off overnight.

Just open a terminal window and enter the following:

    sudo periodic daily weekly monthly

There is no visible output from the procedure and it can take a few minutes to complete.  You can also run each of the scripts individually if desired.

After several days on phone conversations with Adobe it turned out that  there is something common to all Adobe products called "self healing ss copy object", and that this was causing  the CS3 installation problems.  By removing all Adobe and Macromedia products then reinstalling the Adobe apps I had on the hd previously I had no problem with the installation via a safe boot into a root account.  I suppose the upside of all of this is that I am having no problems with any of the CS3 applications that have been installed.
