Minimum Paper size for Z3100 Calibration
« on: April 06, 2007, 02:54:50 pm »

I'm going to be testing a Z3100 early next week  - at this point I'm not sure why I'm bothering to test it - I can't see NOT buying it to replace my 9600.  But test it I will.  I was checking on profiles and some of the papers I wanted to do tests with will need to be profiled - since I have to buy the paper that I may decide not to use, I'd like to get the smallest size I can - anyone know if the Z3100 will profile from an 8.5x11?  or do I need larger

Vince, if you use the internal calibration option, it will use about an A4 size sheet. If you use the APS software, you will currently need at least an A3 sheet for the mid size target and an A2 sheet for the large target.

WOW!  A target that uses a 16x24 inch sheet?  I guess any paper I want to profile will require me to have at least a 17 inch roll since I'll probably always profile with the most accurate possible target.   Unless I can be certain it won't help

I see another thread on APS below so I'll start reading there.

APS is a chargeable option. For the best results I would suggest a 24” roll which is required for the 988 patch target. The next update coming for APS will allow this target to be printed on narrower rolls.

Ouch, that's a lot of paper to buy only to decide you don't like the way it prints.

If they keep this up we should all push the distributors for 5 sheet packs.

the basic target will work on 13x19 I do believe, and for printer-paper linearization you need 8.5x11

Problem is that there is a big difference between the results from the basic target and the 988 patch target.

Two minimum sizes:

For CALIBRATING, letter-size paper works just fine. I do this a couple of times a week.

For PROFILING, 11x17 is the minimum sheet size. I don't have that size, so I sacrifice a sheet of 13x19.

Hope this helps.
