Canson Infinity Baryta ii and Epson P 900 printer

I formerly used Canson Infinity Baryta with a Canon 24inch large format printer which worked well. I recently bought an Epson P900 printer and bought 2 boxes of A2 Canson Infinity Baryta ii paper, wanting to produce exhibition prints. It does not work well, images are flat and almost matt, whereas the older Baryta with the Canon printer had contrast and were beautiful. I am using the ICC profile from Canson's website and using Epson Premium Luster in the media settings both on the printer and in the Lightroom printing dialogue. Am i doing something wrong? Should i be using the Baryta settings, discouraged in several videos I have watched. What are others using? Is the new Canson Baryta ii different in nature than the original Baryta?  This is my first print making for 5 years so am uncertain.   Thanks.

Did the instructions with the profile state to use that Premium Luster media setting? If so, you have to stick to that as the profile was based on that setting.

Yes...  'Media settings' :   ' Premium Luster / emy2 file included'
It just looks muddy..... ive tried increasing the contrast but no better...just more extreme muddiness.  Maybe i have missed something...  Maybe i try and print from Photoshop...

I print my color via a P900 through LR. Which Baryta II? There is a Baryta II which says to use Premium Luster & Baryta Prestige 2 Which says to use Baryta. Do you have the correct profile downloaded and does it show up when you soft proof?

If they are really that bad (flat and matt) check that you are printing on the correct side.

Are you using Epson’s Media Installer with your P900?  If not, you should be.  If there’s an EMY file available from Canson, it has all the correct properties included.  E.g. Caliper, platen gap, ink density, etc.  It also has the proper name for the paper that is accessible via the printer’s LCD for ease of loading.  No “remembering” the Epson media type and all that stuff from the past.   Then, when printing in LrC all you have to do is choose the paper type (that now appears in your driver if you’ve installed the EMY in the Epson Media Installer) and choose the appropriate ICC profile in LrC’s print module.

Other than a profile mismatch, or some other issue like monitor calibration or the brightness of you monitor being way too high, the Canson paper should print beautifully, albeit with less contrast and saturation than other papers of its kind, IMO.

Canson Infinity Baryta Photographique II with Epson P900 produces great prints with vivid colours and nice contrast. It has a semigloss finish.

When i first tried it, I got a sample pack from Canson, and my first print looked as you described: flat, matt, low contrast. I thought that I might be doing something wrong due to all the positive reviews I could find online. I then compared the Gamut volume of the profile to Ilford Galerie Smooth Pearl, (a paper that I had more experience with) and they were close, so no reason to get those dull results.

It turned out that I used the wrong paper from the sample, Infinity Baryta Photographique II matt, with the last word "matt" written in a tiny font. This paper uses a different profile and Matte black ink. When I used the right paper with the right profile the results were great.

I cannot compare to the previous version of the paper since I have no experience with it.
