Hello all,
I am back in Switzerland and starting to work on my printer again.
A short recap of my issue: I purchased a used printer with the 86:01 code and a shredded belt. It seemed like an easy fix at the time. I replaced the belt with one from LPS. After this I have always been getting the 86:01 error code on startup.
It seems that the printer does not know when the carriage is at the right hand side and it does not cap properly. The carriage then bumps up against the right hand side and bounces until is throws the code. The carriage will home properly when I do the diagnostic test for the service station but not on startup.
Here is the procedure from the manual for the 86:01 code
Problem Description:
Problem moving the carriage, most likely due to a paper jam.
Corrective Action:
Try the following:
Switch the Power OFF from the back of the Printer and disconnect the Power cord. Reconnect the power cord and power On the Printer.
Open the Window and check for any visible obstacles restricting the movement of the carriage. If there is a wrinkled mass of media inside the paper path, lift the Pinch wheels (using the Media Lever) and clear the obstruction.
If there is no paper jam or obstacle blocking the carriage movement perform the following:
– Clean the encoder strip.
[AN] replaced 3x – Check the belt assembly.
[AN] replaced with LPS belt – All cables and connections between the Carriag PCA, Scan Axis Motor, and Main PCA.
[AN] I checked and can see nothing obvious but I don't know how to check further – Oil the carriage rails.
[AN] donePerform the Scan Axis Diagnostic Test ⇒ Page 3-6.
[AN] Fails with the 87:11 code scan axis too short. There is no physical blockageIf the diagnostic test does not find any specific error, replace the Carriage Assembly ⇒ Page 6-100.
[AN] replaced with what appears to be a new HP unitReplace the Belt Assembly ⇒ Page 6-115.
[AN] doneReplace the Scan Axis Motor ⇒ Page 6-116.
[AN] Not doneReplace the Main PCA ⇒ Page 6-161.
[AN] Not donehere is the procedure for the 87:11 code:
87:YZ
Problem Description:
Problem finding the Scan-axis encoder reading.
Corrective Action:
Try the following:
Upgrade the firmware.
Clean the Encoder Strip.
[AN] doneReplace the Encoder Strip ⇒ Page 6-91.
[AN] doneReplace the Carriage PCA ⇒ Page 6-138.
[AN] doneReplace the Trailing Cables ⇒ Page 6-92
[AN] doneI replaced the entire carriage assembly including the trailing cables.
In order to eliminate firmware issues I purchased a virgin HD from LPS and installed it. I think it was successful but I am still getting the 86:01 code.
When I do the scan axis test I get the 87:11 code, scan axis is too short. I believe it is because the printer does not know where the carriage is. When I do the scan axis test it looks like the coder is reading the encoder strip properly. I have also had three difference encoder strips in there and this does not make a difference. The scan axis test shows a scan axis of 44".
The only thing I have not done is replace the main PCA board. When I run the electronics diagnostics it does not flag an error with the main PCA board.
If I could figure out why the printer does not know where the carriage is when it is at the service station I think I could solve the issue. Is there a device in the service station that reports the position of the carriage to the printer? I have not done anything to the service station.
I would appreciate any suggestions or input!
Here is my previous lengthy post for those who have time on their hands.
