Canon Pro-2600 Sync paper/profiles
« on: September 05, 2025, 07:51:12 pm »

I installed a custom papers and profiles on my Pro-2600 using the Canon Media Configuration Tool. I know that in the past (half a year ago) I have been able to make this information sync to the Mac so that the custom papers with associated profiles are synced to the Mac print system. This would make the paper type available to pick in the print driver and also automatically assign the associated profile (when set to automatic).

If I recall correctly, the "sync" feature was found under the "utility" dialog that opens when you click the Open Print Utility button in the system printer driver panel.

It seems that bidirectional communication might be turned off. Any tips?

Anyone?

This is on an M1 Mac mini. I have a M2 MacBook Pro with the same OS and same driver and it works as I described above. This appears to be an issue with the sandboxing on the Mac. The utility responsible for syncing is called Canon IJ Printer Utility2. On my MacBook, this utility shows up under Privacy and Seculrity>Local Network. Permission is granted for it to access devices on the local network.

The same utility on my Mac mini never requests to access devices on the local network, so I have no way to allow it.

Is there a way to manually add apps to this list?

Sorry, no idea what you're asking about in terms of 'syncing' of custom profiles.

In “Professional Print & Layout go to “File” - “Other Settings”.

In “Other Settings” select “Preferences” then  “Add/Update Media Information”...

I think there's no way to update custom papers in printer driver in newer MacOS. You need PP&L or Mirage Print to use custom media IMO.

My mistake - I finally upgraded to Sonoma and now it works, only the printer must be connected via USB using the driver version 29.1.0.0 (not airprint)

Re: Canon Pro-2600 Sync paper/profiles SOLVED!

I print directly from Lightroom, so the Canon Professional Print & Layout app doesn’t apply to my workflow.

Coming from the HP Z3200, where paper types and ICC profiles are managed by the printer and synchronized to the connected computer via the HP Printer Utility, I was looking for a similar solution on my new Canon. After some digging, I figured out how to achieve nearly the same functionality.

With Canon, custom papers are added through the Media Configuration Tool, and each custom paper can have its own ICC profile. This information is stored on the printer itself. The advantage is that these custom media settings and profiles can then be synced to all connected computers, so the options appear in the print driver. This greatly streamlines paper and profile management, especially in multi-user environments. If I add a new paper or create a new ICC profile, I can simply sync this information across all machines—no need to manually copy ICC profiles.

The sync option is located here:
System Settings > Printers & Scanners > Printer Info > Options and Supplies > Utility > Open Printer Utility > Media Information > Update Media Information

(Frankly, this button belongs in the Media Configuration Tool, similar to the HP utility.)

Here’s the problem I ran into: the Media Information tab was missing from the Printer Utility. The printer was connected with the correct driver (not AirPrint), but it still didn’t work. I believe I solved it by installing the CUPS driver from Canon’s website in addition to the IJ driver that was installed via the Master Setup. After installing the CUPS driver, the Printer Utility asked for permission to access network devices (which I assume allows apps to view mDNS traffic), and then the Media Information tab appeared.

Now, all users can select the custom media type directly from the macOS print dialog, and when color management is set to ColorSync > Automatic, the correct ICC profile is applied automatically.
