I can’t believe that Leica - with the now improved Sony - are going to be left as the only two players in that little upmarket segment. Canikon can’t, surely, be going to let them get all the action? For them, I think they would probably price similar to Sony, leaving Leica uniquely to its own customer base.
The Q3 with the 28mm does seem to offer me a lot of what I imagine I might enjoy for amateur photography, but there are two factors mitigating against it for me: very steep for my wallet, and the fact that there is absolutely no guarantee that after a couple of walks with it, it wouldn’t join my abandoned Nikon in the cabinet. Age brings increased inertia, and any old chap telling you anything else is either not really old yet or has an obedient slave wife looking after him. That, of course, is the irresistible allure of the iPhone: you don’t have to make a big thing about going out and making/taking snaps. You shoot ‘em or you don’t and it makes little difference to the quality and physical comfort of the walk.
Were I young and working, I wouldn’t look at a Leica. Though their price meant nothing in those times, I never did, my entire career: their offerings always seemed flawed and behind the curve. My last employer had an M3 and only used it with a 21mm, on a tripod, for tv room-set shots. An slr with true 100% screen coverage was much more suited to considered work. Hello, Nikon F!
