My knee injury is getting a lot better and I've been out a little more recently than I had been in the last couple months.

I recently visited my old cactus "friend" I like to check in on about this time of year. I stumbled upon this beauty on a mountain bike ride a few years ago and it really varies a lot from year to year with how many flowers it produces. This year might be the most I've seen yet! I've also discovered cactus flowers are very compatible with long exposures because the whole plant is relatively rigid.





Last night I convinced the Mrs to join me for a sunset detour on the way back home from a nice date night dinner out. We just had the little Subaru and not my truck but the 4x4 trail to this overlook was reasonably dry so we went for it. The weather turned simultaneously horrible and fantastic for sunset and gave me some nice photo ops and exciting weather. What was even more exciting was the drive back down on the now grease-mud trail surface on an off-camber trail. We kind of had to "drift" back to the graded road, dodging huge mud pits and deep ruts while keeping the car upright and on the trail. We managed to make it back in one piece although a bit wet and muddy. I'd call it a perfect date night!

Great cactus, but the last is my favorite. I might try increasing the foreground contrast or brightness a tad.
