More good suggestions to follow up on. I don't have the correct USB adapter to try a direct USB connection

I have a working Z3200 in the US. I could bring back the main PCA and swap it out to see if it is the problem. I don't think swapping out the HD and/or formatter and print mech boards, is a good idea since these are serial number dependent. Whatever I do I need to keep the one in the US working.

Then i would not pull the PCA from the working printer. There is always the off chance that whatever damaged components in this printer, that also will take out your good board. Plus no issues from customs in  either direction.

Ok I misunderstood, I thought you mentioned earlier that you already tried using the USB cable connection. Either way, I would focus on getting a USB and/or ethernet connection going first to see if you can update the printer's firmware before replacing any electronic boards/drive.

Note the formatter PCA and its hard drive are the only 2 items that are a matched pair to the printer after they are installed.

I read recently that info is incorrect, the print mech PCA and formatter/drive are not paired (only the formatter PCA and drive are paired).

They can't however both be replaced simultaneously. You must replace one first, completely restart the printer, and then replace the other (order doesn't matter).

I looked it up in the manual page 2:19: See the screen shot. In the older machines you could actually go in and set the serial number through the service menu, but not on this generation. I am still working to see if I can connect but am running out of time before I travel.

Yes that's what I meant above, you can't replace the drive and print mech PCA simultaneously, you must do one first then the other.

But it's not required to replace both -- they are not matched pairs.

Only the formatter PCA and drive are matched.

These printers certainly have their quirks but the good thing is that we can work on them ourselves. If this was an Epson I would be looking to buy a new one!
