I have two M1 machines and I'm slow to update my OS since printing is key to my photo biz and I don't want to be blindsided after I upgrade and find out that my ancient printer collection is now bricked and I have to downgrade my system. I've got an Epson 9900, a pair of 3880s and a pair of P800 printers. They all get along in Sonoma and work well under Sequoia.
I updated one of my systems to Sequoia just to test this a few months back. It took some trial-and-error and figuring which driver got installed first, but after a few tries, all the printers are working perfectly! I still have one system left to update to Sequoia and that will be soon since critical projects are now behind me.
It takes a little effort but I was able to find the installers (older Mac OS versions) and then figure things out on my M1 running Sequoia. It took a few tries since I also needed to make sure that my Epson 9900 and 3880 still worked, had profiles and printed properly.
After I updated to Sequoia the only P800 driver I could find on the Epson USA site was the MacOS 12.x version and that seemed to work for me. There may be newer drivers on Epson's non-North America websites but you need to search for them and see if they will work.
Bottom line, I used the older Mac OS 12.x P800 driver and along with some piddling with the Apple Printers & Scanners under the System Settings, uninstalling and reinstalling printers, I was able to make all them all work properly.
Uninstalling and reinstalling under "Printers and Scanners" also solves some the of mis-match problems I've encountered with incremental updates to the MacOS that sometimes glitch the print drivers and this usually solves that issue with little effort. YRMV...
Since I've got several other printers on my Ethernet, I didn't want to string more cable in place, I use the Wifi connection with those P800 printers which works pretty well.
One more system to update and I hope it goes more smoothly and easier than the last time, but I know it can be done and that my collection of printers will keep working!
Edit: I just checked the Epson USA website and Mac 10.15 seems to have a driver, 13.26 dated Oct. 2024, available for Sequoia which may make installation easier!
