Ready to jump off a bridge here
« on: February 03, 2025, 07:40:39 pm »

I have an Epson Sure Color P800. I just set up a new photo computer and the printer was working fine. Then I disconnected the cables and tidied them up and now all that prints is a BLANK page, including the test page and nozzle check. Nothing prints. All ink wells are new.  It was fine a few days ago. I've removed and reinstalled the drivers from Epson and their website, updated everything I think needed it, and even tried DriverEasy to do it automatically. Nothing.  Anyone have any advice before I lose my temper here?  Thank you.

Want to get a few things answered first.
Prints nozzlecheck but doesn’t print anything. What does the nozzle check look like if it printed?
All ink wells are new. Do you mean all new carts or does it have a ciss?
What driver? Is it the proper IP driver?
First thing, is it moving any ink? If not have you done any cleans?

Thank you for your reply. When I did a clean and alignment it was just perfect and I even printed a few photos.  I am using the latest driver and utilities packet from Epson with a driver update, and that is what was loaded before.  I tried moving the USB cable to different ports on the PC, but no ink seems to move.  A few of the cartridges are partial, but certainly over half full and didn't think that was an issue as I was printing a week ago. I have removed and installed the printer and driver 3-4x now without success.  I'm going to try to pick up a new USB printer cable and wondering if that's the cause???  I am totally perplexed.  I am using Epson factory ink cartridges. The maintenance cartridge is probably near the end of its life but I have not gotten a warning and I have a new one on order already.

I would say swap-out the cable as a good next step having had many cable failures over the years.

I've learned over the past few months with drivers for the 3880 and P900, you've got to uninstall the printer drivers then reinstall the drivers every time you do a system upgrade on the Mac. The symptom is that when you print and choose the proper profile for your printer/paper combo, the print is dark and muddy. Removing the printer and reinstalling it seems to fix the issue although you do have to redo your presets sometimes.

These problems seem to crop up more and more as I get older and keep the older printers going. The last time a few weeks ago it happened, I kept good notes so that I can fix the problem when I update again shortly. These little gotchas seem to keep popping up occasionally ;-)

I hope your problem gets easily solved with something as simple as a cable, we can hope!

Looking at Epson support, they say that I can use the included Windows 11 driver if I needed to if Windows 11 driver is not available from them.  I'm not convinced their driver is Windows 11 specific.  If I use the "included Windows11 driver" which the heck one do I use and how do I find it?  Thanks for your help everyone.

Sorry, swapped it for a new one last night, still won't print anything, not a test page or nozzle check pattern.  I mean, it PRINTS in the sense that the inks move back and forth and feeds/ejects paper correctly, it's just blank, not a droplet of ink.

Not familiar with Epson drivers/printers. Just trying to narrow down where the issue might be. i recall other discussions on mac if the airprint driver was loaded by mistake.
Can you initiate a print of anything from the printer console directly (unplug the USB cable and ethernet cable if have, disable wifi on printer) and get it to work ?

I am totally perplexed.  I didn't get a nozzle check pattern from the printer directly, uninstalled all ink cartridges, reset them, unplugged it, moved the USB cable to another port and it printed fine.  So it's working but I have no idea why this flaked out on me.  At all.  Am I just stupid??

This may have fully cleared some memory. There may also be a coin battery (like the CMOS battery on main boards)  that needs replacing. Or maybe it just allows a full reset. i vaguely remember some similar instructions for the HP printers so often discussed here.
