Alternative LR Plugin for DXO PureRAW 4
« on: January 23, 2025, 03:39:01 pm »

There have been a lot of complaints about the Lightroom Plugin for DXO PureRAW 4, specifically that it puts the new DNG file in a collection and doesn't give the user flexibility in configuring how the import to Lightroom works.  Thomas Weidner on the DXO forum got fed up and wrote his own Lightroom plugin to handle the import.  It is available on GitHub.  I have installed it and found it works exactly the way I want.  You can choose to put the result in a LR stack or not (I hate stacks).  You can choose not to have the result go to its own collection.  You don't have to save to XMP before invoking PureRAW 4 as the plugin instead copies the settings (except lens corrections and sharpening which PureRAW handles on its own) to the new DNG file.  Once installed it is transparent to the user as you call PureRAW 4 from Lightroom in the same way you did before.  Has been installed successfully on Windows 11 and Mac.  There is no support provided, but you don't have to pay for it either.  The author made an improvement I suggested (don't require new DNG to be in a LR stack).  If it doesn't work for you it is easy to disable to plugin and go back to how the official DXO LR plugin works.

If interested read about it in the DXO PureRAW forum here:

Thanks! While I, often, prefer LRc AI Denise, I stopped even trying PureRaw because of the collection problem.

I have tried it and get an error that it cannot be imported.  What settings in plugin and in PR4 do you use to get the image to return to original source folder (and/or collection, if that is where you started)?

That happened to me at first.  You have to be sure to to get the the actual plugin.  There is a zip folder that contains a folder that ends in "main".  The plugin is a folder inside "main".  See attached screen shot.  There are settings in the plugin that allow you to specify whether in a stack or just before the source image (like LR denoise does).  To see (and set) those settings go to the Plugin Manager in LR and highlight the pristine importer plugin.

Oops.  I didn't look at your error message.  Yikes!  Did you disable the importer plugin from DXO?  What kind of file did you try this on?  It may be that there is a bug you have uncovered.  You can post in the DXO forum thread noted above.  The author is very responsive.

Someone else reported the same problem, but after rebooting their computer problem was resolved.

Plugin did not work on a version of LR prior to 14 but the author relaxed the level of SDK required for the plugin to run to 6.0 and success reported on LR 13 on Mac.

Author has updated plugin with this info:

"There is now an actual released plugin.zip linked from the README. That gets auto build on every release and those placeholders for the version number are substituted with the release version and hash. The new plugin.zip also has only the .lrplugin directory in it since that caused some confusion."

I was using 0.4 successfully.  Just tried new 0.6….it ‘plugin manager’ fails trying to add it.  Going back to 0.4.  I am on Win11, LRc 14.1.1

I would post to the DxO forum, but the moderators have not yet approved my registration.

The easiest way to upgrade is as follows:

1) Exit LR
2) Delete previous version of plugin
3) Copy new version of plugin to the same folder previous plugin was located in
4) Restart LR

This worked for me for version 0.6.  Didn't try another way.

When I do that, the plugin disappears from installed list….and, of course, than fails to load when trying to add.

Did you get the plugin from the link in the readme file?  That is where I got it and installed successfully.
