Cold & steamy
« on: January 10, 2025, 06:23:16 pm »

It was -16F at my house this morning which makes the river steam where it's not sealed under ice. A fun subject and I decided to have some fun and go monochrome with my processing. Not a lot of color in these scenes anyway so it becomes more about the shapes and dark vs light. I used  6 and 3 stop ND filters stacked for the slow shutter to get the swirl.

Those shots make me cold, even at home.
I like the long exposure a lot (usually not a fan of very long ones) and the steams makes the shot a bit special.
Well done.

The swirl is great - shame about the blown sun, but it was where it was.

Thanks! The steam gets me out there.

Yeah in retrospect I should have gotten some more bracketed shots to have more options to deal with that better. But the cold made me feel rushed!

And there I was, thinking you were a Real Man. Another illusion shattered.

Very nice, Matt. Well done. It took some grit to hang in there for those.

Thanks Arlen! It's been especially cold here this year. I'm hoping it thins the herd of newcomers a bit. :)
Currently -22F outside but I'm drinking coffee on my couch. I'm kind of relieved the light doesn't have much interest this morning so I can just stay inside.

The first for me,...  the bottom 2/3rds of the image captures a wonderful winter edge snow bank.

Thank you! I like that soft lumpy snow look too.

Thank you! It's been much warmer last few days and even got above freezing yesterday which felt pretty nice.
Looks like snow is on the way this week which I'm looking forward to. It's been pretty dry for a while here.
