Recommend a Photo Scan, print and Restoration Service?
« on: October 20, 2024, 01:45:48 pm »

Not sure of this is the proper sub-forum for this question, please advise of I should post elsewhere.

I need a top notch provider to scan, digitize and reprint hundreds of old, fragile family photos (color and B/W) for distribution among several family members. This is not a task I wish to undertake on my own.

Does anyone have experience farming such out with good good results? Quality scans, quality reprints, and safe, careful handling of delicate originals?

Thanks

Hi, i cannot help you here, 'cause i would indeed do it myself.

However, asking for help on a service, it might help to point out where you are in the world.

If there are  any museums near you, consider adking there for someone local if the prints are fragile and might not survive shipping both ways.

Some are moving to using the camera for repro/archiving as it can be quicker and as/more accurate.

Thanks for your responses, guys.

I'm in Connecticut, USA, but I would ship to the right place.

I could do it myself if it were a manageable number, but there are hundreds, maybe a thousand. And then there are the reprints. Plus, this is the tail end of a long estate settlement with me as the executor, and my sister as the entitled beneficiary. I am not doing one more taxing freebie for my demanding and unappreciative sister. I wouldn't even do it for pay as I don't want her endless complaints. “Why didn't you tweak this and retouch that?” etc. I just want out.

Anyway, this is a board for DIY'ers - of which I am generally one. But not this time.

Can anyone think of a more appropriate site to ask for such a recommendation?

I have used Colourworks in Wilmington DE for decades with consistently excellent results.   Highly, highly recommended for quality of results and professionalism.
