iPF 8400 Photoshop plugin not working on Sonoma

Hello,

I resurrected my 8400, but I see recent OS updates have caused some problems. Namely, the Canon Photoshop plugin (running on Photoshop 2020) seems to work, but when you send a print job, it says "Check that the printer is properly connected and the power is turned on." I have tried to reinstall/update the drivers, but nothing helps. The Canon Printmonitor connects and sees the 8400 with no problems.

Does anyone here use the iPF Photoshop plugin with recent versions of MacOS?

The planned obsolescence of software under Apple is my biggest gripe with them, which is why I now almost exclusively use my Windows PC's rather than my Macs. With just about every Mac OS update Apple ends up essentially disabling older software.

My Windows PC is running Win 10, which came out in 2015 and ALL of my "old" software runs with no issues. My Mac Pro and MacBook Pro are both running High Sierra, which came out in 2017. However I can no longer use TurboTax on either of the Mac computers because they don't make a version compatible with High Sierra. I've stuck with High Sierra because I run CS6 Master Collection and that's the last Mac OS that will support CS6.

I recently bought a Pro 2600 and Canon does not provide a printer driver for it on my High Sierra Macs but does provide a driver for my Win 10 PC that is running a 2 year older OS.

If you can't get the plug-in to work with the newer Mac OS'es you might try Mirage, which has a Mac version. Mirage has a 30 day full featured trial and it supports both the older and newest Mac OS'es.

People have chided me for expecting Canon to support an "old" OS, yet Canon still supports Win 10 (provides a driver), which came out 2 years before High Sierra. Good luck.

My Canon dealer warned me a year ago that support for the 8400 was ending.
Shortly, ink, heads and service will be unavailable.
The X400 is EOL. As such, Canon have limited reason to keep up with Apple and Adobe's latest requirements offerings.

Thank you for the reply. I hate how Apple does that. As for Canon, I don't think it's unreasonable for us to expect a multi-billion dollar company to provide barebones support for units that are often in service for longer-than-consumer timeframes in the professional realm. Expecting people to discard an otherwise-working 400 pound, 5 foot long beast full of various toxic liquids and metals just because Canon doesn't want to pay an employee $100 to change what could be as simple as one single line of code is frustrating. I'm not looking for any new features. And if Apple's changes were so extensive they are not feasible to update, then they could at least tell us. Not to mention, users of the 9x00 series spent about $10k for their units.

Mirage looks interesting, but it's $500 for a license that supports an 8400. I wish they made a discounted version that only supported old and outdated printers!

Thank you for sharing. I wasn't aware of this, but it seems to make sense. I've been using OEM ink from eBay, so that market should hold out for a while longer. I've read the x400 series had a better inkset compared to the current offerings. Is there still no longevity data for the new inksets?

Ha, I figured it out! The plugin defaulted to using a mailbox instead of directly printing. This is what caused the error. For anyone interested: you have to open the plugin, click "Set Configuration" and be sure "Output Method" is set to "Print" instead of a mailbox. Then the plugin will work as normal.
