Hi folks, it’s been a while since I’ve haunted here though I dutifully write off my annual subscription at tax time. My Epson P600 finally got to the point where cleaning the print head was beyond me; I held the thing in my hand and said, “F—k it, I can’t.” The new P900 seems like a whole different thing. Some hassle with the Epson setup software seeing the thing over the USB cable but when I went to the Mac printer utility there it was, like magic. I ran a text test sheet on copier paper from InDesign without a hitch and went to Lightroom for a print and the printer was there too. And it made a beautiful test print. This is where the questions come in:
–What thickness of papers are people successfully feeding from the top of the unit feed tray thing? I use two papers; Canson Infinity Platine Fibre Rag Art Paper, 310 Gram and their Rag Photographique, also 310g. The 600 only took them through the front feed and fussily. On a whim I sent a sheet of Platine cut to letter size through the top — and it ate it and spit out a print! No jamming. But it did what you see on the paper edge in the attachment.
–Is there still the fussy platen adjustment that was part of my print set-up work flow in Lightroom? I see it is available in the “Epson Media Installer” but can’t find it in the Lightroom menus, or am I misremembering that entirely?
–Last, the instructions say that the front feed demands 16” behind the printer; is that for real?! I had 8”, maybe 10” behind the 600 and that was fine. I have a very small office….
That’s it, thanks in advance and I will be grateful for any advice that gets that smeary bit off the edge of a sheet through the Epson. But, jeez, was that easy compared to the 600! And for a dumb, easy work print it’s gorgeous.

PS: I am happy to give the P600 to anyone who wants to wrestle with it, it’s back together and working but for the clogs. Catch is that I’m in Honolulu and I don’t expect shipping to be cheap and you’d have to pay that. I made a lot of beautiful-looking prints with it before the matte black clogged bad from using only one paper surface. (I print color and work prints on the Platine, B&W on the Photographique. Love them, the Platine reminds me of the paper surface of the old Oriental rag papers air dried, the other the matte surface of the AGFA papers. I always hated the surface of color prints in the days of film.)
