There is a problem with the Daidochrome visual ethic, though: one of my granddaughters was with me when I took the shot, and I realised that sending a copy of it to her, as processed for the website, could easily give anyone not familiar with the style the idea that wow, this photographer can’t process!

Maybe that’s why it took me quite a while to get to understand Moriyama; it was only continued curiosity and many repeat visits to flip-through book sites that go me to come to grips with the oeuvre. Definitely a cult personality and image that surrounds him and his photography - one massive and prolific bubble!

Big personality filling the room?

Mediterranean diet keeps them reasonable here - unless it’s to do with eyes and skin. My eyes have been playing games these past three or four weeks: hardening of the lids, constant flow of tears or of something else. The first week I was on antibiotics, with no results; the doc then tried antihistamines for the next week, and that proved just as useless. She then put me on something else, and told me that if it didn’t solve the problem, I should go straight to the eye folks at the local hospital. Well, the hardness has gone, as has the very red inner lining of the lids, but a little secretion remains. I’ll give it another day, and if everything isn’t normal then yes, hospital here I come. I also have a blurring again that makes Photoshopping useless: I can no longer tell what’s sharp and what’s not. Fun…

Yeah, all four of his lights have been removed. Perhaps he reached the point where he longer cared. That said, the car’s taking up scarce parking space. One day, it’ll have been vanished, as it were.

The guy also has a pit bull. I photographed it some time ago, struck by the relative size of its cojones. Pit bull eyes are as totally emotionless as those of a cat.
