Windows Update Conflict With PS
« on: August 18, 2024, 12:13:17 pm »

Not sure if the title reflects the issue, but assuming so.

Windows !0 Home, Photoshop CS6, Nikon 810 files.

I have been running the noted system(s) for the last number of years, with no issues (minor speed issues related to age/capability of computer, but no big deal).

Within last few days, Windows did an automatic update (within 10, not to 11). One of many over the years.

Since the update, CS6 is experiencing extreme slowness of some operations that were not present prior to update (ie 2 images open and clicking on the image headers to switch back and forth - long delay where both image headers are lit for multiple seconds then the second image finally shows, can't use a keystroke for tools - now have to actually click on the tool button, bringing one image into a layer above the other for compositing- long delay for each step, etc etc)

I tried to revert to the prior Windows version, through the settings menu, but it indicates I cannot as it is beyond the 10 day period (this is incorrect as the update was well within 10 days, but the applicable button is greyed out).

So, a couple questions - Is there another method to revert back in the Windows update lineage (without affecting anything else)? Barring that, I believe I have read  somewhere that newer OS versions may/will lose support for old programs, am I safe in upgrading to Version 11, and would that possibly solve this issue?

As I have a young grand-daughter who takes a lot of my funds (she lives down in Colorado, so travelling there two/three times a year costs me 12-15 grand yearly, on top of all the gifts I keep buying her - my fault I know, but it is what it is), I am not ready at this time to upgrade my computer and to the latest Photoshop/Lightroom, so I am looking for a resolution just to allow me to continue using CS6.

Thanks in advance,

Marv

You should be able to use System Restore to go back to the 'before' update time.  It shouldn't impact anything else.

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/use-system-restore-a5ae3ed9-07c4-fd56-45ee-096777ecd14e

Next up would be to disable Updates for now.
