PHOTOSHOP CRASHES

Having this issue (suddenly) lately on both a 2020 M1 MacBook Pro (Somona 14.4.1) and a 2017 SSD iMac (Ventura 13.6.5) with 2024 release and beta versions. I don't think I have a problem on my home computer (M2 Mini, I can check later).

On the MBP I deleted various Adobe prefs and support files, restarted, no joy.

Ideas?

Holding Shift to disable plug-ins helps, but removing the plug-ins from the folder does not (?).

If you deleted prefs and only disabling the plug-in fixes the issue, it's the plug-in.

Thanks, but still crashing with an empty Plug-ins folder (?).

Try logging into another Mac user account (you should make a new one); still crashing? 
Try starting up in Safe mode (hold down Shift Key when booting*), still crashing?

* How to start your M1/M2 Mac in Safe Mode
On your Mac, choose Apple menu () > Shut Down.
After your Mac shuts down, wait 10 seconds.
Press and hold the power button until the startup disks and Options appear.
Press and hold the Shift key, then click Continue in Safe Mode.

Try fixing permissions by running Disk Utility (Disk First Aid) or, again, using Onyx.

The Onyx treatment did not help.

Holding Shift while launching PS (beta) did work.

I checked About Plug-ins, only Camera RAW was listed. It's up to date.

Safe mode: PS still crashes. As before, I am unable to view a Report.

I will try a PS reinstall via CC.

(And the forum throws errors as I post my report......)

Uninstalled beta, reinstalled release, still crashes. Got a report to display this time, sent to Apple.

So weird, I support over 600 Macs and PCs in higher ed, all with Adobe, never see this. Now 2 of my own computers do it.

Bridge is fine on the MBA.

Anyway, I'll continue on and see what happens.

Shift (Safe Mode) worked. So here's the tough part. Since it doesn't crash there is a conflict with something in the original mode. The hard part is figuring out what that is. The first task is to disable all auto log in items in Users and Groups>Login Items in your System preferences (System Settings in Ventura). You can make a screen capture or jot down what each item is, disable, restart and try again. If it doesn't crash, you can add one or more items, restart and try again. At some point, you may find which item is at issue. It isn't easy but that's really the fix unless you do a clean install of the OS which might be more work. The bottom line is, that something in your user account is conflicting with the Adobe software. Gotta find out what that item is.

Meanwhile back on the M2 Mini (Ventura latest), no issues with either the PS release or beta...

Found the problem! It was some leftover ON1 stuff.

I found the items here:

/Users/(me)/Library/Application\ Support/Adobe/Adobe\ Photoshop\ 2024

BTW, there is a LOT of Adobe stuff all over your system!
