Photoshop Image Processor - Dimensions on one side only
« on: December 01, 2023, 03:58:37 am »

Is it the case that when you set pixel dimensions in Photoshop Image Processor, you can only set the long side?

I'd like to be able to set dimensions for the vertical side only. For some files, this will be the short side (landscape format), for other it will be the long side (portrait format). Is this possible? If not, is there third-party software that will do it for me?

Thanks.

I think Fit Image (in PS) will do what you want.

File > Automate > Fit Image

Enter a high number for pixels in Width.  Probably just the RAW pixel count for a landscape image from you camera.  This will effectively be ignored.
Enter the pixel value in Height that you wish images to be resized to.
This is a constraint so the resulting file will simply be resized to this value for height.  As the width is a large number it will always be trumped by height and the original aspect ratio is always honored.

Thanks!

Sorted!

Though not quite as you wrote....

1. In Bridge, Select All for the images to be resized.
2. Select Tools > Photoshop > Image Processor.
3. Tick Resize to Fit box.
4. Put 10000 in the width box.
5. Put 1080 in the height box.
6. Tick Save in Same Location
7. Click Run.

As you rightly said, PS ignored the 10000 figure and resized everything to 1080 in height and the width proportionately.

Many thanks!  ;)
