Hasselblad H2 and Lens Error ID 52.1
« on: November 13, 2023, 05:56:26 pm »

When I attach my 50mm II lens, I get "Lens Error ID 52.1". The camera fires once but the shot is overexposed. I also got "Lens Error ID 27.1" earlier, on the same day, but I understand that means the body and lens contacts are poor. So, I cleaned them and, now, I just get the error 52.1 message. I have since noticed that the shutter blades are partly closed and do not seem to move.

I understand error 52.1 may mean the shutter is not working and it may need to be rebuilt. Can anyone confirm this?

Hopefully, the lens can be repaired but where? I am in New Zealand.

Do you have another lens to try? It is however almost definitely the shutter assembly.

The bad news is that since the demise if CR Kennedy as the distributor in Australia and New Zealand you are now at the mercy of DJ1 Store who seem to have no interest in anything Hasselblad. Unless there is an NZ equivalent you would need to contact them on https://www.d1store.com.au, but I would check with Hasselblad Support in Europe first.

The worse news is that a new shutter assembly will be about $2700AU.

The only good news is that you would probably get the latest firmware version. If you don't need that then another on eBay is probably a better option, or move to an X1D.
Good luck

Thank you for the happy news, Bob!
Other lenses work fine on the same body.

Lens usage is only 10,936, which I think is quite low.

I have seen other mentions of getting a new shutter assembly or kit but is there a chance it is just lack of lubrication or something repairable?

I am surprised at the common response that a new shutter kit is required, and that they are so expensive.

Are any of the H lenses more susceptible to shutter failure than others?

I had a lens that failed at less than a 1000 clicks. Lack of use is actually not a good thing.

Short of a strategically placed thump with your palm I can't offer any suggestions. It probably can't hurt (the lens).

Thank you again, Bob!
I think I read somewhere that you have had a couple of shutters replaced.

Do you mind sharing who did the last one and whether you would recommend using them.

CR Kennedy sent them to Hasselblad Sweden. They were two different HCD35-90.
Apart from the cost, they were great.
I have always had good results from Sweden.
The last shutter was 20/1/2023 and cost AU$2981 inc GST.

First step is to get a quote and that the moment that is a concern in Australia, but according to Hasselblad, you have a dealer!
