Layed My HP Z3200PS Printer On It's Back For An Hour?

Long time reader, first time poster (Ba dum tiss)
I bought this 44" printer from the local university without knowing just HOW BIG it really was. We ended up laying it down and taking it home on its back (about an hour trip).

Did I set my self up for a world of headache?

After reading the z3200.com website (thanks Mark!) I got everything up and running after taking it apart for the belt change. Actually twice, the second time to reseat the rear carriage brushing. I'm getting pretty quick at it now!

Everything looked good, the diagnostic cleaned up after soaking the print heads on a wet paper towel. Magenta lines print as squiggles but when you put an actual image through it looks awesome. I got three prints out with very few problems then 1/4 of the way through print 4 BAM, no red. Completely gone. Could this be air in the lines from laying it down?

Soaked the printhead on a paper towel, Nothing.
Teacup with steaming but not boiling water. loosened up a bunch of red color, but printed nothing.


Ordered a new hp 73 MK/R printhead from HP
and a Syringe/Seals kit from LPS (Shoutout for fast shipping and awesome service with the belt kit!)
The plan was to use the LPS kit to pull the line and make sure there is no air, then save that ink and try to restore the broken printhead later when I need something to tinker with. Is this a lost cause? It was working a few days ago.


I am assuming printing with the expired MK means the new printhead wouldn't be covered by HPs warranty. Would that include new 772 cartridges?
Is there a video detailing the head swap for the 772 and 70 ink cartridges? Is there a better way? How do you feed this beast?

Any secret squirrel tips to this printer?

I also wanted to say THANK YOU to each and every person on this forum, Ive read through almost 300 threads on here about my printer and I appreciate the wealth of knowledge everyone has shared.

Because of you I know:
This printer is sometimes susceptible to a bad belt (replaced mine with LPS) air in the lines (LPS kit also ordered), and nozzle clogging.
Leave it on, plugged into a UPS. or the heads can dry out and clog.
If it does clog, distilled water or clear ammonia, hot water soak, MAY unclog it. If not, replace the printhead.
Print weekly, preferably twice a week.
It may be a good idea from time to time to bag the inks and shake the tar out of them, preferably all together. This will help the inks stay suspended.
Use HP brand inks and printheads ONLY, expired is ok if it prints.
772 print cartridges can be used in this printer by swapping the heads with my old carts and it will make printing with genuine hp a little cheaper.
Everybody's favorite papers are like $400 for 20 meters. {Whats the most cost effective, decent (in your opinion) archival roll paper?}
Skew check using single small sheets is really difficult.

And lastly, Don't lay your printer on it's side! Not only will you probably spill ink in your van, you might end up with air in the lines. Just remove the stand!
