Epson Stylus Pro 9900, 9890, 7900 Error Code 1411 and 1419
« on: October 04, 2023, 02:49:09 pm »

Hello everyone,

another question to the professionals!

With my Epson Stylus Pro 9890, the error messages 1411 (select error / valve select operation failed)) and, more rarely, 1419 (pump release error) appear again and again at intervals of about 10 prints.

For both errors, the service manual says, that I should check the connection between the Ink System Unit and the Main Board Assy.

I did that, all cables and plugs are correctly seated (I also unplugged them and plugged them back in).

If that doesn't help I should replace the ink system unit or the main board assy. I have two of both (out of a 9900 and a 7700).

My question is, what should I replace first?

And: do mainboards from a 9900 or 7700 even fit the 9890?

A thousand thanks and greetings

i'd assume your main boards are fine-- the first error is a pretty common failure mode with the ink selector between matte/photo black-- do some searching, there are plenty of topics on replacing it.  The second... kind of sounds like maybe there's some sticky ink preventing clean movement to and from the capping station, so if you can get in there and clean around that would likely help.

as far as swapping boards, yes they're likely electronically identical, but they almost certainly have pre-programmed onboard EEPROMs which tell them which model they're in and also likely bind them to the serial number of some other components therein.  I doubt you should mess with swapping those, especially since you're not at catastrophic failure yet.
