Sedona Sycamore Snag
« on: July 17, 2023, 09:33:44 am »

I love these bright white snags against the desert background along with the bonus of a moody sky.

Hi David: I hesitated to comment when I first saw your photo, but after a third viewing, here's the rub. I find the composition interesting: the white bark is a great visual feature. But, the tonal difference between the clouds/sky and the foreground seems imbalanced. It looks like the sky was selenium toned (bluish), while the foreground is neutral or warm toned, or something like that. That just isn't working for me, but that's just one opinion, so take it for what it's worth.

Bob, I appreciate the comment. I can see what you're saying in the thumbnail, but not in the expanded version. When I look in the Develop module of LRC I cannot see that difference. Maybe I am a little "green color" blind though! Do you see it in this version (below) where I took the image, converted to BW in LRC? I appreciate the comment and will have to review my rendering and post process to see if I can figure it out. FWIW, Bob, never hesitate with me, please.

UPDATE: Now that I see these together, I can see that tonal difference in the the thumbs and less so in the expanded version. Interesting.

In the second version, the sky looks less "cool" or bluish.

I also prefer the second version!

No. The second version is neutral throughout. No bluish colorcast in the sky, as in the first rendering.

Well, I did a lot of head scratching on this and the only thing I found was that in my PS histogram I had "colors" selected. I don't think that's it, but it threw me off kilter so I started from scratch with color adjustments in LRC, rendering to SO in PS, duplicating the color SO, then editing the second SO as a black and white in LRC. So, completely different post strategy, but ending in what is close to my original vision. I do wonder ??? if I might have a mild cyan color blindness, though.

I like the last one the best by far.
