Early one morning a few months ago, a herd of about 25 elk decided to cross the river here, in almost single file. Most of them being very tall with long legs, they wade downstream as they angle towards the middle, until it gets too deep and they start swimming as they are pushed downstream. Then when their feet touch the bottom near the opposite bank, they can resume walking. The water was about 36 degrees that day, but cold water doesn't seem to bother them. They just shake it off and keep on moving.
