Canvas Dark details and blacks
« on: March 01, 2023, 08:11:20 pm »

Looking for a canvas that comes at least 44" wide(preferable 60") that isn't too textured and has good dark details. Looked at Breathing colors linen but no one has samples so before buying a test roll was curious between it, Canson and Hahnemuhle canvas'. I mostly print on Canson Platini but have a special project so need something with some tooth that isn't shiny and I don't have to glaze. Want to display it like a painting. Or should I mount plating to disband and coat it with varnish? Seems like it could still damage easily??
Thanks in advance.

Breathing Color Belgian Linen has very beautiful, natural texture. But it's also very expensive. The resolution, gamut and density is in the top level. Canson's canvas are not that good IMO.

The varnish will increase your Dmax quite drastically when coating with semigloss or gloss.
I purchased a roll of the BC Linen and it looks really fine. Our issue like others have said is the cost is just too high to fit it into production.
At $5.35 a sq. ft. it is 4 times the cost of our lexjet canvas.

All canvas has to have a coating on it to keep the edges from cracking when it's stretched except a few from Breathing Color:

otherwise you'd have to glue it to a flat board.
