Resolution Needed For Large LED Backgrounds ???
« on: February 20, 2023, 04:58:39 pm »

Good Afternoon, does anyone have experience working with the new LED panels some sound stages are using in place of backdrops?  If so, what resolution are the studios looking for when placing background images on those screens?

The reason I ask is because it appears like narrative productions are heading in this direction over the next decade.  I just read that Trillith in Atlanta installed one around a 80x90 feet floor 26 feet tall.  (See below for the article.)  I have also discussed this with a few art directors who work on narratives over the last couple of months.

I plan on experimenting with adding movement to some backdrop files, but at our current resolution that would not be possible.  I assume the resolution for these would be considerably less than for a printed drop, which is why I am asking.

Just for reference our files are around 270 MP, or roughly 30,000x9000 pixels, in resolution or bigger.
