ETTR and mirrorless
« on: January 23, 2023, 12:38:30 pm »

I'm using the Z7ii with manual exposure. Even though I have been consistently over exposing by 2/3 to 1 stop, I seem to have a lot more latitude above that. Does anyone know if there has been a rigorous workup like that for DSLRs like the D850. The viewfinder histogram is helpful, but not completely useful. Blinkies also seem to consistently understimate.
FWIW, my workflow is to examine raw files in FastRawViewer/RawDigger then import to LR and start with the camera-specific linear profile. I know I could always work this out for myself, but thought I'd see if it has already been done.

The Histogram and Blinkies on virtually all cameras (AFAIK, not PhaseOne) are based on the JPEG, not the raw. Rather worthless. Stick with RawDigger (FRV) if you want accurate exposure info and use that to guide you on how far off the meter and (if you must) Histogram really is. Mirrorless or DSLR, the same exposure techniques for raw data apply.

An excellent set of library references, Andrew (I've read all of them). I'll have to work it out for the new camera, but it looks like it's right in line with the D850 at about +.667 to +1.33 EV
PS JPEG, check

Sadly the first three links do not work.  The Fast Raw Viewer links take you to a generic home page.  And the Raw Digger ones likewise.
