How can i use SUPER Resolution on a JPEG/TIFF
« on: January 21, 2023, 05:38:24 am »

I know how to use ENHANCE on a RAW image but I can't find how to apply it on a JPEG (Old images).
Thanks.

You can open it in Camera Raw (enable it if disabled in Raw preferences.) Once opened, you can access the Enhance option.

If you want to open something other than JPEG/TIFFs (questionable why you'd do either) in Adobe Camera Raw with or without the preferences so set the 'trick' is opening them as if they were raw (which they are not of course) is by selecting Format menu as Camera Raw. TIFFs, JPEGs, even PNGs etc, open in ACR.

Hi Andrew

I saw your post on this before but I couldn't work out where your screen shot was from. Where do I access the FORMAT option? Is it in saving a file?

many Thanks.

Thank you NIRANJAN

I cannot see the option you mention in camera raw preferences. I am using 15.1.1ACR (stuck on PSHOP as my MAC will not update to use latest OS).

Open your jpeg/tiff files via Bridge where the option to open in ACR is an easy option under "File".

Bridge seems to be a pretty underrated program since it's included "free" with the subscription. It makes several of my workflow processes quite easy!

Bridge is absolutely not necessary to open raws or non-raws into ACR.
Photoshops Open command works as well to host ACR just like Bridge.

Doesn't matter how old your ACR is - this has been around pretty much forever.  Open any raw file and open the the preferences dialog.  Then open file handling where the option to enable jpeg and tiff files is.  Once you enable them, when you click the file in Adobe Bridge, it will automatically open in ACR.

Alternatively, you can open the ACR preferences from Bridge in the Edit menu.

In Photoshop use "Open as" instead of "Open", then in the format drop down choose "Camera Raw"

I have tried Andrew's suggestion which was fine in that the jpeg opened in ACR. However I have always been able to open a jpeg and then just used FILTER/CAMERA RAW to achieve the same effect.

However my query was "How can I use SUPER Resolution on a JPEG/TIFF". No matter which way I open the JPEG I cannot get the ENHANCE option, it may be impossible to do so........unless someone can suggest otherwise. I am stuck on ACR 15.1.1

Thanks again

Again, by using ACR plugin not as a filter using the “trick” outlined. Do you not see the option for Super Resolution?

When you open a jpg in ACR right click on the image. Does Enhance not appear in the contextual menu? See attached image.

No, super resolution (Enhance) will not work in the Camera raw filter.

No The ENHANCE does not appear. I can get it for raw images but not jpeg hence my question.

Has anyone been able to use enhance on a jpeg?  If yes then maybe it is the version of PS which I am using I am on MACOS  CATALINA.

I ask because my older files were jpegs and lower resolution.

Thank you.

Have you tried a new jpg? Can you share one image to see if there is any issue with the old files?

It should work, both in ACR and LR

Sorry if I seem inept but I have been using PS for 20+ years and been on internet 20+ yrs (i remember mosaic!).

I have worked out what  "I" was doing wrong.  I was opening jpeg as a smart object and could not use ENHANCE. When I opened it as ordinary ENHANCE WORKED.

My apologies and thank you for your Patience.

Andrew it was a memory jerker seeing the dIGITAL DOG on the test page!

Thanks ALL.
