H3D problems
« on: January 14, 2007, 04:07:40 pm »

Hi there,

recently I got my new H3D 22 and 50-110mm zoom. From the first day on I'm constantly receiving error signals, like reatach the lens, or restart the back. Sometimes it helps to just move the focus manualy, sometimes I reatach the lens or turn the power off. But sometimes I can't  even turn the camera off so I have to take out the battery. I've spoken with dealer so we try to instal new firmware, it worked that day, but next day everything was the same again.
He said he would send it back to Hasselblad if the error messages will continue to appear.
It's less then a month I'm having the camera, I did few smaler jobs with it and besides those signals I'm really hapy with files. I'm not getting nervous yet while I can still work with it, but I don't know how to really talk to the dealer, while it's absolutely clear that I can't afford to have  these kind of issues on important shoot, the first comming in the end of this month.
Also is it possible to demand new kit? I would be very greatfull for your comments and if any one has any suggestion how to approach the dealer.

Many thanks,

Tomo

Just ask for a refund, they sold you a faulty camera, easy, you get your money back. You shouldn't have to put up with that, demand it, simple as that.

Are you running the same software version as your dealer? It's possible that you are running a VERY old version of the software that is downgrading the firmware.. I think it more likely that you just have a faulty piece of hardware and your dealer should just swap it out for a new camera.

Hi Nick,

we checked and reloaded firmware from my computer. Also I double checked I have the latest version of Flexcolor.

Might be something wrong with the lens. But then again, sometimes when I put firewire out of the camera (H3D is charged trough firewire, so camera starts automatically when you connect it to computer, without pressing the camera on/off button) the camera stops, but the back is still on, and as it has no switch the only way to turn it off is to take off the battery or turn the camera on and off on the camera switch again. Quite strange.

Does this happen with any other lenses?

I don't have any other lens, I'm waiting for the 150mm. Hopefully I can try it this week with some other lens.

I would demand a at least a temporary H2D replacement, while they look at the H3D.
You work with professional gear that you pay top $$ for, so you should not miss
a day shooting. When it comes back and the problem still persists, demand a new one.
Seems that you are unlucky to get a bad one.
Good luck with it all

A wild guess: does your 50-110 lens have black or silver screws on the back--the end that attaches to the camera. Again, it's probably not the problem. Good luck.

Tomo:

I'm not sure what part of the world you're in, so bear in mind my response is based on Hasselblad USA policy. We have not had issues like this with any of the H3D's we have sold, nor any of the recent H2D's going back to last summer, except one.

And that one H2D experienced similar problems - we switched out lenses, checked formware, etc. But it still occurred. At that point, the unit went back to Hasselblad, the end user was supplied with a loaner. I can't recall if his unit was repaired and returned, or if he just received a new unit, but it's since worked flawlessly for him.

Hasselblad USA provides 1 year standard warranty on H3D's (extended warranty coverage is available), and the first 90 days are hot swap, meaning if you have a problem, and you're down, and the issue cannot be resolved, you'll receive a next day replacement.

Assuming this is likely the same case wherever you may be, approach your dealer about swapping it out, or at least getting a loaner while Hasselblad looks at it.
