A brisk morning at the river
« on: December 01, 2022, 04:16:51 pm »

During the early part of the winter when the air gets cold but the river here is not yet frozen over it can produce a lot of steam. I'm fascinated by the steam and how it interacts with the light and shadows. When it was -8 yesterday morning I thought it was worth a quick drive to check it out.

Wonderful light and steam… The water looks warm, like hot springs. We have the same phenomenon here when the air is much colder and the lakes/ponds/rivers are putting out a lot of steam. Needless to say that just dipping the hand or a finger in the warm water recalibrates the perception  ;D

Composition-wise, the first one for me. In the second, if you are going to show the entire top tree line, some clearance would have been desirable.

I, too, prefer the first one. Looking forward to more.

Yes, the third one is my favorite. It's a more complete image (composition, light, depth [as David wrote above], etc). I would say that #1 and #2 are a work in progress and #3 is the finished image.
Thanks again for sharing!

Thanks very much! I think this last one is the best one as well.
I was slightly rushed just because of how cold it was but I kept the things in mind I wanted to improve on the previous attempts and tried to address them.
