MAC OS 13 Ventura Help!
« on: November 18, 2022, 05:37:05 pm »

Good evening everyone,

Ok my issue is I was running OS 12 all was well in printing land! My son decided to update the OS so he could run PS 2023 which requires MAC OS 13. Well... It has messed up my print drivers and Q1 RIP. It has been so long since ive done an OS update, I cannot remember how to get the drivers to recognize the Canon Pro 6000 media (Hahna and BC papers) and most importantly printing rolls. All it does is default to standard settings.

Any help to shake the fog out of my brain would be immensely helpful!

Regards,

Paul

First, your son is wrong, PS 2023 doesn't require macOS Ventura.
You'll have to download and reinstall the print drivers so get them from the source (Canon?) and reinstall. No idea if the 'current' driver from Canon works with Ventura or not.

Hi Andrew,

The new Filter section apparently does require OS 13 I’m told.

I have the latest version from Canon US downloaded and installed. What I do recall was there was the same issue when I upgraded to OS 11… whatever it was. It would only see the canned profiles and no roll option. Trouble is I cannot remember how to fix it.

Thx tho

Sorry, not so. Not sure what "new Filter section" means FWIW.
It's all here:

Minimum OS is Big Sur.

Ok thanks, I do not use PS I use C1.

I’m dead tired and just want the issue solved without have to reinstall last OS.

But thanks for your time and information.

Take the Time Machine backup that your son did before installing Ventura and press CMD-R on restart and restore the old system and all the files and you will be back in action in about 4 hours.

What's that? He didn't make a backup before upgrading?

Paul.

I wouldn't go down the road of re-installing your previous Mac OS as you may find that this won't fix the problem; and it will take-up a lot of your time.  It's probably fixable with a little diligence and patience.

I assume you are talking about the media 'profiles' rather than colour management ones ?  If so, is the right printer selected in the System Preferences (Printers and Scanners) ?  You need to make sure it's not Apple's AirPrint but uses the printer driver you have already installed.  During the Mac OS / printer driver updating process it sometimes asks you which printer connection protocol you want to use and your son may have inadvertently selected AirPrint.

I'm not an expert in bespoke media profiling but I seem to remember another post where you have to make sure the media setting is exported from the printer to the computer (but this may have been for an Epson printer).

Failing this a call to Canon's technical support will certainly be helpful as they can talk you through things and eliminate possible causes.

Wishing you the best of luck and a successful outcome !

I used to remember back in the day this was a helpful forum. Back in the late 80's I met Michael at Newbar Graphics in Scarborough Ontario. He was having some film scanned with their Heidelberg scanner. He was a very informative and helpful person that I recall. Unfortunately all I see is spam and trolling here except for Simon!

You have no clue what my operating environment is, nor if it is my main work station, capture station or print station. Fortunately it was done on the print station/capture station iMac. Simple fix revert to OS 12 and reload C1 and Q1 and back running.

Perhaps in the future stop trolling and try and help others out, instead of wasting peoples time!

Have a great day!

Up and running now :)

Well sorry for the spam answer based on your own writings (first post):
My son decided to update the OS so he could run PS 2023 which requires MAC OS 13.
And after my 'spam' reply correcting your son and based upon your actual writings:
Ok thanks, I do not use PS I use C1.
Now you tell me....  :'(
Time for me to move on. I've got more 'spam' to post elsewhere.

Andrew it was the end of a day when I had been up since 3am (16hrs) when I posted my question in this forum. All I was asking was how to fix the issue nothing more.

So a simple reply from a member stating as of this writing there is no compatible fix at the moment, or to try this or that would have been the proper way to communicate the the thread.

but thanks for your time :)

Spam was in reference to Mr Shaw's post, well spam...

But what you wrote with exclamation (and can edit FWIW): "Unfortunately all I see is spam and trolling here except for Simon!"
Perhaps a nap before posting again is in order.  ;)

The answer I gave was the easiest solution to the stupid situation that you put yourself in, by not doing some basic google research. It is easy and works every time. As I said, 4 hours and it is fixed. The most basic thing of doing a backup and a little research would have saved you wasting everyone's time here.  A whole 7 posts and I think this was your first one. Good luck.
