Affinity Photo 2 released
« on: November 09, 2022, 08:08:50 am »

Full spec and new features at;
https://affinity.serif.com/en-gb/photo/full-feature-list/

No upgrade price, just buy it again (at a discount currently and probably again in future).

I found the 40% discount very attractive. For a single app, single platform price of $40.99 USD was a no-brainer for me.

I was hoping for an expanded printing module however which was not realized.

I found the 40% discount very attractive.
It's not a "discount" because version 2 has never been sold before. It's, more correctly, an introductory price that will increase at some unspecified date in the future.
look back at the history of Serif and you'll see this is their standard pricing method. Very regular offers of a 'discount' with periods of full price sales so that their 'discounts' don't contravene UK advertising rules.
A real discount will be when it's offered at more than 40% off.

It's good value cheap software, but I can see why some people are annoyed that their loyalty and advocacy for the product hasn't been specially rewarded.

I think a lot of people will be disappointed in how little has been added to this new version. Nothing particularly innovative at all from what I can see.

I've just downloaded the trial to see what's changed and how the non-destructive raw workflow has been implemented.
It works, just, but don't expect anything like other packages LR,CO,DXO etc.
Once you've found, loaded and adjusted your raw, you need to render it to a raster image before you can save the settings to return to.

Although I've posted this in 'Other RAW Convertors' it really should be regarded as a pixel editor with RAW support.

The integrated workflow with Publisher is a great idea, but the whole suite really needs a DAM for the concept to really pull together.
It's also crashed several times in the first hour of trial, so be careful if you want to do serious work.
