Mac Drivers for P20000 and 9570 conflict on 12.5.1 and 12.6
« on: September 19, 2022, 04:04:18 pm »

In our studio, on both a current M1+ laptop and a brand new Mac Studio running either OS 12.5.1 or 12. 6 the
P20000 driver reports a a "filter failed" error. We have repeated the issue with both USB and Ethernet. If we uninstall and wipe the macs of drivers and preferences the P20000 installs and runs fine, however once the 9570 is installed, the P20000 fails every time. The 9570 Driver does not seem to be effected by the conflict. Epson professional support claimed it was a mac error even though we can demonstrate that it only happens upon installation of the 9570 driver and washed their hands, not even interested in taking notes  (Im not surprised). We escalated this through other Epson channels, but we are waiting on word from Japan. I have limited expectations about that.

Anyone else having similar issues? Or have suggestions. Currently each Mac has only one printer driver on it. We can print though our PC or our EFI RIP so we mange, but would love to able to use the drivers as well.

12.6 seems also to have broken the Canon PRO-1000 driver too.

See 'Monterey 12.6 Security Update May Break Printing Colour Management' below.  Updating the driver has fixed it.

Yes, thanks i saw the thread. It's not uncommon for Mac updates break color management, especially when printing from PS. Usually a clean reinstall fixes that. This appears to be a bit more problematic.

Then maybe do the Epson Enema and install the print drivers (from Epson) again:
   1.   Delete all instances of Epson printers from System Preferences>Print & Fax.

   2.   Then go to /Library/Printers and toss the whole Epson folder.

   3.   Toss LFP Remote Panel (IF you are using this utility for your printer).

   4.   Then reinstall drivers from Epson and never Apple.

In addition there are a lot of posts on filter fail here.  If you enter "Filter Fail" in the search engine for the printer forum you'll get a lot of hits.

Thanks Andrew, we did those exact steps, and repair disk permissions, restart etc, multiple times on both Macs, but the problem persists once the 9570 driver is installed.

Epson did indeed confirm there is a problem with the Mac driver and Japan has now made an update, although it has yet to be localized for release.

So weird. Just did a clean install to a new M1 MacBook Pro 16", zero problems with the 3880 and P800.

Hi Andrew, the conflict seemed to be attributed to the 9570 driver or perhaps the Media Installer, and it only made the P20000 driver fail but works fine itself.
It seems that you wouldn't have the same issue.

Good news is Epson did just release a fix for this, a new driver for the 9570

From Epson:

An updated driver for the P9570 has been posted, version 12.62. Please head to the printer's support page to download it here:

https://epson.com/Support/Printers/Single-Function-Inkjet-Printers/SureColor-Series/Epson-SureColor-P9570/s/SPT_SCP9570SE

Please be advised that the description still needs to be updated, it still lists v10.91, but after downloading and installing it myself I can assure you that it will install v12.62.
