In about a month we will see the release of the new Radiant Photo app and plug-in, based on Perfectly Clear technology and designed by a group of photographers including Elia Locardi and Richard Harrington.

Radiant Photo is to be provided fairly and without gimmicks, enabling you to use AI to immediately get your photos 90% of the way to a perfect look without further interaction. Upon loading an image, the type of scene is detected and smart presets are applied in seconds.

For further editing, a large selection of controls are provided for tone, color and details with additional tools for adding graduated filters, portrait editing, color grading and other fine-tuning.

I’ll soon write up a more detailed review of the beta in a blog post but for now, here are some screenshots using both JPEG and CR2 RAW image sources.

In Quick Edit mode, you can see the clear results at 100% strength with no additional tweaking. In Detailed Edit mode, you can see a small section of the editable settings available.

Visit the Radiant Imaging Labs website for more info.

...AI to immediately get your photos 90% of the way to a perfect look without further interaction. ...

It is perfect in the sense of how most of the mobile phones deal with a photo....
You get an universal look of with general colors, bit over the top ; optimized tot the limit local contrast everywhere etc.
It is the medium accepted look of today. But can be a desired starting point.

Thanks, of course, and any result can be dialed back and customized as desired.

Never heard of those photographers but I've heard of the one in this article (he's actually a good friend), which describes that a massive part of the art and science of photography is 'rendering the print' (or in this case, rendering the the raw):
http://www.lumita.com/site_media/work/whitepapers/files/pscs3_rendering_image.pdf
Any actual photographers posting here should read this if they haven't. Any of them that worked in the conventional darkroom will understand the topic.
Those happy with automatic raw to JPEG in-camera processing need not apply.

Thanks Andrew, good info of course.

I think it all depends on the type of work one is doing – wedding and event photographers are probably not going to take that type of effort on each shot, unless a small selection are to be printed at some huge size. Same with photojournalists in a major hurry to submit their work. Fine art photographers and printmakers would be on the other end of the scale.

Which is where a product designed for such production work for rendering the image comes into play: example Lightroom Classic. With perhaps a strong product for pre-selection of the images to be edited comes into play: FastRawViewer.
I sell neither.
I use both.
Rendering the image from raw applies.

Full disclosurer based on actual experience: When I shot weddings (to put myself through photo school in the 1980s) and when I shot the 1984 Olympics for the LAOOC as an event photographer, (60+ rolls of actual film a day for 16 days), no such tools existed. Rendering the image did as it does today.

I remember those days too.  The original fast viewer was a light table and loupe. ;D

And no... I would not go back to those days for any money at all....  I like my digital gear.
