amazing as it seems, i've never seen a print from an 8x10 camera until last week when i met a photographer who showed me some of his work. 1 print was 3x3ft or maybe 4ftx4ft and another was about 30"x whatever and finally i saw an 8"x10" print.
i was blown away. i mean it was better than i imagined. my only other reference to film was 35mm when i was young taking photography classes in the summer, and even those blown up to 8x10 still seemed like it was lacking in resolution.
oh, and the colors were tremendous! i have only read online or seen scanned examples online about the different films, color renditions and resolution of mf and large format. but it's one thing to see it online and quite another to be standing 12" from a 3ft or 4ft square print!
anyway. thought i'd share. i'm so glad i met him and saw that.
on another side note, i'm a movie fan, and even on tv, i miss the look and feel of older film films vs digital. i work in computer graphics (stills, videos, animations) and even though you can "add grain" it's not the same at all
