Why are my focus points all black? (new Canon Dlsr)

My  older Canon 5D mark 2 focus points all red all time. And cameras before that too.... REbels etc..

With my new 5dsr they are sometimes all red, then go to sometimes all black, Stumped. Actually cannot get them back to red . thanks.
