Digitar 72L or 80L for digital backs
« on: July 16, 2022, 03:11:32 pm »

Hi,

Im looking to get either a Digitar 72L or 80L to work with the old back, a p65+.
I think I need something between the 55-60mm and the 90-100mm and either of lenses would suit my needs as per the focal length.
Both would be used mostly for the table top kind of shooting, with the scale ranging from 1:4 to 1:10
The scale is somewhat problematic for most lenses as it is just outside the best range for macro lenses and just below the best range for normal taking lenses.

After some initial reviews, I think that the 72L and 80L seem to be the best. I can see from MTF graphs that the 72L is quite a bit better, but how much better is it in the real life in these scales, especially with movements applied?

Is there any other option to consider? How about the analog SA 72XL or 75mm, or Super Symmar 80mm with digital compared to said digitars? There is also the old Sinaron Digital 80mm that seems to be quite good for small ratios being basically a modified enlarger lens.

Any word of advise or experience, possibly with both lenses in questions?

Thanks a lot!

Hi
The 72 and 80 digitars are both excellent, very sharp lenses. They are both perfect with a P65+.
I have never seen a difference in quality between those two lenses.
I have the 72 mm on my Cambo WRS and the 80 mm on a Cambo Ultima.
Regards,
Ben
