There has been some discussion of the Sony IMX661 127 megapixel 33 x 46 mm global shutter sensor
announced last year for industrial cameras. Sony has recently posted a video showing some side by side images from the global shutter IMX661 and the rolling shutter IMX411 151 megapixel 40 x 53.4 mm
industrial sensor.
The video runs just 2 minutes for anyone interested. It illustrates why the global shutter sensor is currently recommended only for industrial applications. No doubt, the qualities listed in which the global shutter sensors are currently inferior to rolling shutter sensors are areas of research and development that will eventually eliminate the need for mechanical shutters.
