Hasselblad H series Auxilliary Shutter operation.
« on: July 08, 2022, 06:54:36 pm »

Hi,
I have a Hasselblad H2 body with the Auxilliary Shutter Drive Unit not operating. It is permanently open.
I removed the back cover plate and can see that straps operating the shutter itself are not broken and I can wind the shutter by turning small black wheel at the bottom of the picture.
Would anyone be able to tell me how the shutter operates please?
By that I mean that I can see a silver motor that presumably does it. If so does that drive in both directions or in one direct and a spring returns it?
What controls the start and stop?
I have seen a (bad) video on how to remove the cover but it would be best to know what to look for before I do that.
I could of course send it to Hasselblad but I think the parts alone would be worth more than the camera. They no longer seem to have repair prices on the website, but it is probably over 300 Euro plus labour.
Any assistance would be appreciated. bob

Don't know what the previous video was that you saw Bob, but here's a three-part series of YouTube videos that may be of help to you.

Also, a previous thread which includes the person that made the videos above...

Thanks. They were the ones I saw. Effective though I don't think that the guy had done it before.
His problem was that the straps were broken. My straps are Ok. The drive is not happening.

Actually... that's still listed as a fixed price repair...

It's on their website, so I expect that it's current. But, it would be better to inquire before assuming.

Thanks. 620 Euro is more than an H2 camera is worth working though.

The last couple of H2 bodies that were sold on eBay went for $700 USD. So, yeah... pretty darn close.

If I come across anything I think might be helpful, I'll post it here. Best of luck to you.

I slid the cover off the unit to expose the Auxiliary Shutter Drive. I could apply voltage to the silver motor in the photo and the shutter operated. I put it all back together and the shutter immediately opened when I connected a battery grip and turned it on. So it is not mechanical anyway.

I'm hoping that means progress Bob. Let us know how it goes. I'll keep my eyes open for anything that might help.
