Waterfall Froth - or - Cosmic Abstracts?

Hi all,

We went to a large and very impressive waterfall that I have photographed many times before, but this time there wasn't much water running through it, which was disappointing. So I wandered around to see if there was anything else I could photograph and discovered an area downstream, where the froth created from the falls, was slowly swirling around in a large calm pool next to the river and reflecting the sky above.

And here are the results.

I like those a lot, with a slight preference for the first.

Good seeing. I also prefer #1, due to the complementary colours.

Beautiful and I join Eric and Paulo, I prefer the first shot. Colors are more pleasant and the second photo looks like it's taken from above (even if it's not the case).
Anyway, both are great shots!

Yes Francois, I took them both from directly above. It is a sheer edge to a rocky area about 15 foot above the water, so it is simply a matter of leaning over the edge slightly and then zooming in to pick out the most interesting abstract shapes.

I will be going back in a few weeks to have another go at this type of thing and to see if my Sony captuers the scene in more detail than the old Canon I used for these shots, due to my Sony being in the shop for repairs.

I prefer the first one, too. I wonder if lowering the contrast in the second one may offer more visual ambiguity, in a good way?

The first one gives the impression of more depth of field but it's probably due to the "shape" of the froth.

Thanks again everyone, much appreciated (and I do always means that, whatever the general consensus is btw) 

I will be going back to these falls early next week, so there may be more of these types of shots to come, because once I find something, I am like a dog with a bone and cannot let it go. But I don't really need to tell you guys that do I, as we all do this if we find something that sparks our interest don't we?
