Anyone use Epson Semimatte Photo Paper"
« on: June 21, 2022, 03:02:39 pm »

Hello!

I have a client who does not like my standard Premium Glossy. I have cotton fiber papers but don't think he will be happy with the dark blacks he usually prints. In searching I found Epson Premium Semimatte Photo Paper. I have never used or seen this paper.

Any thoughts on how it renders blacks? What is the surface like?

Thanks

One of our customers uses Epson Proofing Paper White Semimatte - S042118 - for printing photography and loves it. I believe that his images are always color and he prints with an Epson 3880. He likes the smooth surface, the non-glare finish and prefers it over Epson Luster. I would guess that it would be similar to the Epson Semimatte Photo Paper.

Thank you, I will look into this paper for my client.

The Proofing White Semimatte has no or very little OBA in its structure so although it has a high white reflectance the white is warmer  (Lab 97.2 0.3 1.3) than the Premium Semimatte shows (Lab 94.7 -0.5 -3.5). Advantage of the Proofing White is that the white base is more color stable in time.  I have no idea whether the Semimatte textures are indentical, printed or unprinted. Never used the Premium.

Met vriendelijke groet, Ernst
