Whilst waiting for the availability of some other printers for testing and reviews, I was talking to Epson [UK] about the number of enquiries I get after any review, about printing cards and artwork (at home).
Now, I try and include a mention of this in any desktop printer review, and it's usually to remind people that the media needs to be proper inkjet media (not some cheap white card from the craft shop) and that you need profiles.
The issue many also ignore is that at any successful volume of sales it becomes a fulfilment business, and you'll spend a lot of time loading individual sheets.
After some discussions, someone suggested one of Epson's 'Office printers' - the WF-C8690. Four colour durabrite inks...
Anyway, a new one turned up and I'm going to do a review (not covering 'office functions' - I don't know anyone with a fax to send them to). Profiling was interesting, but the rear paper feed put the likes of the P700/900 to shame. 10 sheets of 350gsm pre-creased card or even multiple A3+ sheets of 380gsm canvas - loaded and printed as easy as copier paper.
Those four inks do have a relatively limited gamut and B&W performance is 'mixed' but next time someone asks about card printing at larger volumes, I have an additional answer - even if it's not what they want to hear ;-)
Oh, and the 11" x 17" scanner on top is none too bad either (esp. with VueScan)
