Does BasicColor 6 Pro work with a Spyder3 ???
« on: May 08, 2022, 02:17:09 pm »

Hey guys,

I'm one of the perhaps few, that still use Eizo CG241Ws and would like to use some with M1 Macs, which is apparently difficult. So I have found here a recommendation for BasicColor 6 Pro and am eager to find out if I could use it with an oldish Datacolor Spyder3 ???
Any tips or suggestions for alternatives would be highly appreciated.

cheers

Stephan

Try the basICColor website. It lists the supported measuring instruments.

Eizo ColorNavigator 6 and the Datacolor Spyder3 are both 32-bit and no longer supported in more recent or current versions of macOS (10.15 Catalina and later).

You can use either basICColor display 6 or basICColor display 6 Pro to perform hardware calibration of your Eizo CG241W monitor.

For a reasonably priced colorimeter, your best options are either the Calibrite ColorChecker Display Pro or ColorChecker Display Plus (formerly known as X-Rite i1Display Pro or i1Display Pro Plus and other names as OEM products).

You can also use a reasonably priced spectrometer like the Calibrite ColorChecker Studio (formerly known as X-Rite ColorMunki Photo / Pantone ColorMunki Design / X-Rite 11Studio. All are the same instrument sold under different names with different branding and software).

Also, you should feel free to contact customer support at Eizo, basICCcolor, or Calibrite with questions. They're there to help you with their products.

It does under Windows, but the big question would be, why would you want to use that device?  ;D

I would assume for the obvious reason of already owning one. I totally understand wanting to get as much use as possible from something for which you've already paid.

What I don't understand is why I routinely see folks looking for answers about products thru online forums which can easily be found at a manufacturer's website. This specific question was already asked by the same person a year ago and answered in detail and is now being asked again.

I'm all for helping people with their questions, but occasionally feel like asking if they've tried Google or what did the manufacturer say when you contacted them with your issue. You know what what I mean?

Old and a POS, time for something that works.
FWIW, I did actually answer his question specifically here with the respect to that instrument and the OS it is supported in.  ;)

Yeah, I understand about the Spyder and agree with your assessment and advice — and yes you did. 👍
